Obama's in the Foreign City. Or Something Like That.

Before we even start I apologise for the expletives used below. I'd also like to heavily stress that these are quotations, and not my own views at all. Just thought I'd clarify - thanks guys.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a post where there should be three. I'll do my best to separate them all with pictures, but the title of the post pretty much shows how confusing this may become. Hey ho, let's give it a whirl...

This rather grandeur place is City University London, which, as some of you may remember, I have applied to to study Journalism at next year. You may be thinking 'Why the hell is he telling me all this again?' There is a very legitimate reason, for I attended an Applicant Day today. Not quite an Open Day - it's where all those clevererer people (and me) go once you've been offered a place, and in my case, accepted it. I don't think they really know what they've let themselves in for...

But it does sound like I'm doing all the right things... I have a blog, with my own domain name, which is getting a lot of hits a day. Which for me, is amazing. But for City, it has to be more than that. I have a big attention to detail - some may call it OCD, others may call it being an arse. And on top of that, I've been blogging and Tweeting for two years, which means I'm not learning how to do it anymore, but how to better it. Simple, if you knew what I'm on about. Sometimes, I even wonder...

Oh, and a on a slight sidenote, have a nose at this. The Guardian have published this little beauty today - they've managed to get hold of 40 lectures aimed specifically at journalism students. Must say a big thankyou to Lewis Wiltshire for this.

Obviously, I'll keep you all updated. But right now, I have to get the grades of AAB to even stand a chance. I can do it, but my brwain may disagree. Oh, I also met a guy who looked like Hurley from 'Lost'. Just saying...

Okay, next bit. They all link, I promise. Above is a picture of the Olympic Rings, unveiled at St Pancras International Station earlier this week by Lord Coe and Boris Johnson - all in preparation of London 2012. But, what do those rings supposedly signify? Unity, strength, togetherness. Something we seem to be lacking here in London.

On our way home earlier from my Applicant Day, we bumped into a drunk man and a blond lady at Covent Garden. He was stumbling everywhere, and leeching on to anyone he could - it was a very awkward, disturbing few moments. Until it got a bit raucous. A Spanish family, consisting of a mother, a father and four children, looked and shook their heads. And it kicked off. Below are a few comments made by the blonde lady to the family, in front of their young children. Avert your eyes if you don't like swearing.

"Look at them, fucking staring at us... Fuck off..."

"They're giving us fucking dirty looks... Fucking look another way. Twats."

"Fucking immigrants"

"Shouldn't even be here, scum."

And just before boarding the train... "Get on that train, you fucking idiot"

And there was plenty more where that came from - and it was disgusting. I had a feeling things were about to turn violent, but sensibly, the lady walked away from what can only be described as racism. Her family all looked very worried, and very scared, and the drunk man just stood around laughing at his wife's remarks.

How can we hold an Olympics in just over a year, when people aren't willing to accept others? Just because the lady and her family were foreign, does not automatically make her an immigrant. For weeks next year, we have to welcome people from all ways of life into our country, and I for one am very excited for that. But if one person can have these attitudes, it makes you wonder who else does too...

But I can't finish on that. So, on a much, much lighter note, here's an article from the US about Barack Obama's potential favourite Lady Gaga record. Brilliant. Certainly tickled me.

Anyway, that was my day. Eventful, to say the least. A rather boring Thursday is now in order...

Were you at City? Did you enjoy Obama's article? Or did you find the blonde lady's comments as disgusting as I did? Comment using the box below, or Tweet me - I'm @Adam9309. Also, you can drop me an email by clicking here.
