Oscars Night 2011: Who Wore Who?

The inevitable disasters appeared, as usual, on the Red Carpet in preparation of the 83rd Academy Awards. Or Oscars, to you and me.

Now I watched the coverage on E!, over here in the UK, and followed all the commentary, pictures and horrific slagging-off on Twitter. I apologise in advance, because this blog is going to be LONG.

Screw the Awards, the outfits are what makes the Oscars great. There's been some dreadful things worn in the past, but tonight seemed to be the exception to the rule - mainly. There were the odd one or two that would have looked nicer in a bin liner.

Well, it'd be rude not to start with tonight's host. Anne Hathaway, possibly the most gorgeous woman in Hollywood, looked stunning in a red Valentino dress, on the far left of the picture below. But I'd have liked a bit of leg, so a shorter on-the-knee cocktail dress would have been greatly appreciated. Remember that for next year, Anne.

Mila Kunis, who was at the Awards to represent her film 'Black Swan', looked amazing in a lilac Elie Saab gown, and she's in the middle. There was some lovely lace touches to the dress, mainly around the boobs and arms, and it just seemed a lovely touch to the whole piece. Her hair looks amazing too. She'd get it.

Or how about Hailee Steinfeld? The 14-year-old actress is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her debut performance in 'True Grit'. She helped design her one-of-a-kind Marchesa dress, and it helps her look sleek and gorgeous, whilst still keeping her youthfulness. What a lovely story... She's on the far right.

Then we have Celine Dion. Apparently she's just had twins... You wouldn't know. If you cut her face out, she looks stunning in Armani. Just an amazing dress. Far left.

And then my favourite so far - Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang. Bright red, utterly stunning. Mainly because it's VW. But an incredible, incredible design. She's in the middle. Obvs.

Jennifer Hudson is presenting an award this evening, and is wearing a deep orange Versace gown, that is just gorgeous. Shows off her new figure perfectly, and looks incredible. That's the far right.

And so much is expected from Natalie Portman. Her performance in 'Black Swan' has had film critics wetting themselves in the middle of cinemas. And her dress surpasses that. Although pregnant, she pulls off a beautiful purple Rotarde dress with ease. It's on the left for you.

Okay, it's time for a disaster. Nicole Kidman looks dreadful in white Dior. The dress is layered and jewelled, but makes it look like she weighs a ton. She looks a bit ill too - give her a spray tan someone. But which is which? Her husband Keith Urban is looking more and more like her every day. Get a haircut. She's in the middle.

And finally, the one everyone's talking about, and the one everyone loves. Cate Blanchett is wearing Givenchy, with beading all around the bodice and the shoulders. Quite incredible. The use of bright colours in the neon yellow, but the understated grey gives her a chic, sophisticated look. Just an amazing 'work of art', rather than a dress. On the right.

So, there we go. 8 amazing, and one... not-so. Enjoy the Oscars, I'm sure I'll mention them at some point tomorrow! Oh, and if anyone asks, Anne Hathaway is mine. MINE.

Music Musings - Magnetic Man

There isn't a sound quite like this lot. Magnetic Man are a dubstep three-piece from London, and are really, really impressive. They shot to fame with 'I Need Air', followed by 'Perfect Stranger', featuring Katy B. Now their new record features John Legend, and is phenomenal.

I love John Legend - I own all the albums and have followed him all the way up, but this is by far on eof the best things he's done. So touching, yet so catchy, and at the same time, very different and relaxing. Really impressive.

If you want more info on them, you cna look on their official website, or go say hello on Facebook. Simple.

Anyway, here's their single with John Legend, called 'Getting Nowhere'.

Better Late Than Never... Brum Win The Carling Cup

Birmingham's on-loan striker Obafemi Martins pounced on a catastrophic error to score late on to beat Arsenal 2-1, and win the Carling Cup at Wembley

The 89th-minute goal earned Birmingham their first major silverware since 1963, after a truly brilliant game between themselves and the 2nd-placed Arsenal. 6ft 8 inches Nikola Zigic flicked a header over the Arsenal defence in the 28th minute to give Birmingham a deserved lead, but Robin van Persie scored a superb volley in the 39th minute to pull it back to 1-1, as half time approached.

Alex McLeish's side came out of the home dressing room the more fired-up of the two teams, but with Ben Foster making some great saves in the second half, Arsenal began to crank up the pressure, and were looking more likely for the winner. However, it was Martins late goal, capitalising on a horrific mix-up between Szczesny and Koscielny to flick the ball into the back of the empty Arsenal net.

AFW: Other Schtuff [Day 5]

So, the last day of Adam Fashion Week is upon us, and it's been a blast. It may sound very '70's, but honestly, I've had a lot of fun this week. Just putting that time aside each night to go a bit nuts typing 'I LIKE THIS TOP' over and over again has been just what was needed.

Now some of you will have noticed that the site has changed a wee bit too. I felt that seeing as I had a new lease of life with GMOAI, so should the site itself. Gone are the bland, boring colours, and in are the... bland, boring colours. Trust me, it's better than the tangerine and red mixture tried last night...

Anyway, as the last day tears roll down your faces, I thought I'd try and cover everything I've missed so far. It's a good'un, if I say so myself.

So, there's a combination of the Shit Drawer, and pending your football allegiance, my Man United shirts. Swap as you wish... There's a lot of T-shirts there that were brought back from holidays, and pretty much only come out on holidays too. And those United shirts are the latest couple I own, alongside an LA Galaxy shirt with Becks on the back. He's a babe, I'm a babe. Clearly.

But hang on - if I'm such a huge United fan, where are the rest of them? Oh wait, here they are.

9 more of them, and that was all I could get hold of in one handful. Imelda Marcos has shoes, I have United shirts. And shorts. And shirts.

So what's left? Coats are few and far between - there's a thick Next winter coat, my lightweight Gap khaki thing, and a River Island mac that looks like I'm gonna flash someone every time I pull it on. And then there's shoes. Very embarrassing ones too.

Yes, I own Crocs. Shameful, I know. Horrifically shameful. I plan to hurt myself for this sin later. There's also a pair of Converse, a pair of brown and a pair of black. Oh, not to mention some have-a-bananas Havaianas. And that's my wardrobe.

So that leaves one final action for AFW. Today's outfit - a light blue baggy jumper, teamed with tattered jeans and Havaianas. And seeing as I was covered in two-tonne of different aftershaves from The Perfume Shop, I felt cool. Good enough for me.

So thankyou for sticking to AFW this week. It's the start of fashion blogging, and you can find all that kinda stuff using the 'GMOAI Style' link at the top. Trust me, my fashion diary over the next few months will be well worth a giggle. Even if it's plainly aimed at me, and not with me. Deal?

Deal.

AFW: Shorts [Day 4]

With plenty of exciting things planned for GMOAI, life seems good. Well, my life's alright, but GMOAI is going great. You'll notice a few changes over the coming weeks - first one being the rather wonderful page headings up top, to help you get to where you want even easier. You're welcome.

And with that came hot weather, because it's obvious that when I'm happy, the weather is. I say hot - it hit 12°C, so that was my cue to get the shorts out and swap to my summer wardrobe.

I couldn't care less whether it was cold or not - I pulled on some shorts, and I felt happy. I felt summery, and it was a good feeling. And it's bloody February.

But my short collection is hardly small. And *exclusively* for AFW, here it is. And that''s just half.

Lovely, eh? Of all the clothes I own, I own one thing that is designer, and it's what I wore today - my teal pinstriped Tommy Hilfiger shorts. I like these. Mainly because of the cool pocket lining. Oh, and the fact they're designer.

But I own far too many pairs. I have a 29-inch waist, but because I liked them, I bought a pair that had a 36-inch waist, and thought I'd wear it with a belt. Except now, when I wear them, I look a little excited to see everyone. Cheers Hollister. (I've sensed this week just how much I own from Hollister. The official scale back starts today. Maybe.)

Now, as everyone does, there's always pieces that have no known brand on them, but just look nice. And bearing in mind I have a wardrobe made up of 95% of them, there's plenty of these. There's a nice pair of Zoo York blue checked, a few khaki that just go with everything, a couple more checked, theres... Well, you can see for yourself. A pair of shorts for every occasion.

Now London Fashion Week was all about Autumn/Winter '11 collections, so there were no shorts involved. Only stoopid people wear shorts in the winter. So me.

Today's outfit combined my gorgeously wonderful Tommy Hilfiger shorts, and yet another Hollister T-shirt. I can't seem to help myself, annoyingly. I need to expand my wardrobe. A lot.

AFW: Sweaters and Knitwear [Day 3]

So we continue on our trek into Adam Fashion Week, as the gates shut for the final time on London Fashion Week 2011. And what a week it's been - beautiful collections from the cream of the crop from Britain. Makes you want to grab that Geri Halliwell-style dress with the Union Jack on it, and prance about in the middle of town. Obviously.

Finally getting home brings a decent internet connection, and a decent internet connection brings sadness, seeing as I can't buy my wonderfully pretentious wish lists on every fashion website known to man. And woman.

I tell you one thing though - there is a lot of excitement surrounding Autumn/Winter '11, and with cold weather comes sweaters and knitwear. Linking me very, very nicely (and ever so slightly conveniently) to today's topic for AFW.

Now today at LFW was Menswear Day, and so out came all the various collections that were to attempt to impress all the blokes, but just excited the women as every man did the normal blokey thing of 'Yeah, that's nice. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, that's great.' But knitwear in A/W '11 will be long, bright, and a bit weedy, if you get what I mean. Nothing chunky, but it'll look like it's dripping off your arse.

That became apparent from James Long's catwalk show, where each piece of knitwear looked a little like this...

Or what about Omar Kashoura's show, where they all looked like this...

Now my knitwear is hardly sumptuous, but I have a jumper for every occasion. And yes, hoodies count. There's my now infamous cashmere-blend grey jumper from Next, my Hollister long-collared pullover, there's a Hollister hoodie or two hiding somewhere, a couple of nice blue Gap sweaters, and then we have Adam's ultimate bad buy. This won't ever be bettered - it's just a horrific, horrific buy that will inevitably embarrass me several times in my life. I suggest you shield your eyes.

An H&M pea green sweater, that is even worse in real-life. I've just been burnt from just picking it up, it's that bad.

But we'll gloss over that as quickly as we possibly can. Today's outfit consisted of ripped Levi jeans, a generic grey most-definitely-not-another-Hollister-tee-but-secretly-another-Hollister-tee under an orange and blue checked Hollister shirt, off-white Converse, and a collection of bags that between Isobel and I, made Mariah Carey look like she'd packed light.

I'm a little obsessed with Hollister. It's more of an addiction. I don't want any more, but I have to keep buying it. But, bear in mind I personally haven't bought a piece of clothing in 6 months. Bastard bank accounts.

Pictures from the catwalks very kindly pinched from the official London Fashion Week website. Ta dahlings.
