Music Musings - Lady Gaga

I blogged on January 7th about the upcoming release of Lady Gaga's new album and single, both called 'Born This Way'. Today was the day we finally heard the single.

And it is just mind-blowing.

I haven't heard a record like this in ages. Yes, it sounds very similar to 'Express Yourself', by Madonna, and could easily have Enrique's 'I Like It' as a chorus, but it is something that will become an anthem.

It has a pumping electronic beat, a thumping bassline, and sounds like what you'd expect from Gaga. Her vocals sound crisp and brilliant, and the use of fading and layering becomes apparent throughout the record, ending in the best way I've heard a record end in years. The classic piece by piece fade out, and then a quick chat on the end. The chorus is just remarkable though - it's got 'GRAMMY' written all over it.

You'll be humming it all day, and it'll be ticking away in minds across the globe. It's already #1 on 22 of iTunes Top Charts. And it's already on my iPod.

But today isn't just a great day for Gaga fans, who finally get hold of their single. It's unbelievable to think this was announced on New Year's Eve, and hadn't been leaked in any form until the official release.

No, today is a great day for music fans. Many believe that Gaga's album will be the 'soundtrack to a generation'. Based on today's single release, I think they may very well be right. And that makes her album a very exciting prospect.

For those of you who haven't heard the single yet, it's here....
