Elbow at the O2 - Drinking To The Seldom Seen Kid

First up, apologies for being very scarce the last few days. It's what we would describe up north as a 'toughie'. No innuendo intended.

As you are all probably well aware, last Tuesday I went to see Elbow at the O2 in London. I happened to review the album last week too. But I'd say it was probably the best gig I've ever been to.

It was just remarkable. Elbow have a knack of being able to play in front of thousands of people - in our case, 11,000 of the bastards - and still make it sound as if they're just playing in your front room.

The set was simple - five empty picture frames that were filled with projections of the band, and as they walked out the frames, they walked onto the stage. Five big screens had images projected on them, and the acoustic set with Guy and Craig was just amazing - you could have heard a pin drop.

Obviously, Grounds for Divorce was the one that got the crowd pumped, and Open Arms and Neat Little Rows already sound like big anthems. But the encore of One Day Like This safely took everyone's breath away - just stunning. Everyone got involved, and it was the first time I've heard Dad sing at the top of his voice at a concert. And hopefully last too.

Annoyingly, my phone cut out just before the gig, and then my camera did the same right at the end, so there's minimal pictures and videos and shit. But below is One Day Like This, in full HD, apparently. And it sounds great too.

My lasting memory of the night? The old couple in front of me. They were drinking spirits, and she was wearing a straw hat, with him in a navy and gold blazer. They looked posh. He turned to his wife at the end, having stood up and thrown his arms in the air, and said 'That was good. No, it was more than good. It was absolutely fucking marvellous.' Absolutely priceless.
